Allan Alfred is a masters student, studying Philosophy at Copenhagen University, who is very much aware of the changes taking place within society due to this new era of information availability that we live in.
For his masters thesis, he decided to do a inter-disciplinary paper in collaboration with some students from the film and media faculty titled “The struggle for a knowledge based society- with focus on the role of philosophy” (Kampen om videnssamfundet – med focus på filosofiens rolle).
As the faculty promotes the use of both traditional (the written paper), and new media formats for thesis’s, Allan made a website, facebook page, mini-documentary and a series of dialogues, as well as a powerpoint production. He also did the traditional 30-40 page paper.
Allan approached a number of philosophers, politicians and business leaders, to make seven short films about their views in regard to social values such as courage, wisdom, freedom, responsibility and happiness. These were disseminated via new media sites, and on his site www.videnssamfundet.com
When Allan handed in his thesis, it was rejected and failed. He appealed the ruling, and got a 12 (the highest grade possible in Denmark)
We believe this example is crucial in understanding the challenges that we are going to have moving into this new era. It is not easy understanding a reality outside of the cave, in this case, maybe even more appropriately, in the cave, when we barely have any experience or language for it. What Allan has done is try to look back in order to move forward, thus getting a piggy-back ride from Socrates in order to overtake people like Kevin Kelly and Ray Kurzweil.
While it may not seem as grandiose and inspiring talking about the future from the viewpoint of the past, it seems to us that Allans focus is on rediscovering core virtues that have been lost or buried in the mists of time.
As the city states have grown wealthier, the access to the central island i.e. the academy has become more necessary. Allans method of open door access and inclusivity will ensure more have the opportunity to access the academy. This is an ideal we at Soul United strongly believe in, as better and easier access for all will hasten the arrival of the much needed new technologies and communication methods.

This is the third dialogue between Thomas Sheridan and Jakob Madsen which forms the basis of this documentary project. It is also, in my opinion, the best of the three dialogues, which makes it one of the most worthwhile presentations of information I have ever been privy to. Many of the topics of the previous two dialogues are explained here in greater depth. This post concludes phase one of our documentary project with Thomas. The complete presentation of the three dialogues together form an example of a new type of interactive teaching or self-study aid.
By making the original recorded skype dialogue available not just in it’s full length on youtube, but also as a complete chronological storyboard and with a teaser post like this highlighting the most important parts, you make the material easily accessible and digestible for many. The slides with their notes and hyperlinks makes it easy to get an overview of the topics of each clip and begin your own further research. The whole point of this type of postproduction is to encourage the viewer to interact with the material presented and not just receive passively. We are well aware that the sound quality of these clips are not up to professional standards and that you could employ things like background music and visual effects to keep viewer attention. We believe that it is the combination of the value of the content in combination with the transparency of the underlying intention which will be crucial to the communication of the future. So we have made these examples to demonstrate what is already possible to produce with free software and cheap hardware.
The only expenses we have incured in this production are the volunteer manhours we have invested. That said, if you get any value from work that we produce we really need your help and support to continue and expand our vision. Comment, repost, contact us, donate your time or invest your money in our work and learn about our methods by collaborating with us on a project. All financial support we receive at this point will be spent on necessary gear for the volunteers. Soul United exists to creatively help enhance value creation.
Dette er den tredie dialog mellem Thomas Sheridan og Jakob Madsen som danner baggrund for dette nyskabende, online dokumentarprojekt. De berører mange af emnerne fra de andre to dialoger og fletter dem ind i nye sammenhænge. Vi har via disse tre dialoger præsenteret en ny prototype af interaktivt undervisningsmateriale, som kan bruges af enkelte selv-studerende og af grupper i klasseundervisning.
Ved at gøre den oprindelige skype dialog tilgængelig ikke kun i sin hele længde, men også som komplet kronologisk storyboard og med en teaser post som denne, indeholdende de vigtigste klip, gør man materialet nemt tilgængeligt og spiseligt for mange. De producerede slides med noter og hyperlinks gør det nemt at få overblik over emnerne i hvert enkelt klip og begynde sin egen videre research. Hele pointen med denne type opsætning er at opfordre brugerne til at interagere med materialet og ikke kun være passive modtagere af information. Vi er godt klar over at lydkvaliteten på disse klip ikke er professionelle, at storyboard siden tager lang tid at loade og at man nemt kan gøre mere med baggrundsmusik og visuelle effekter for at holde folks opmærksomhed fanget. Vi tror på at det er kombinationen af værdien af indholdet og den bagvedliggende intentions gennemskuelighed, der bliver det afgørende for fremtidens kommunikation. Derfor har vi lavet disse eksempler for at vise hvad der er muligt allerede nu med gratis software og billig hardware.

We are currently in the process of producing a documentary feature based on these dialogues and we want to involve you in the process. To do this material justice, we need ideas, video-editing skills and manhours. So we are crowdsourcing the production by sharing the material and the creative process as open source as we can.

Joakim er uddannet i informationsvidenskab og har arbejdet med marketing i USA. 4 års erfaring fra en danskstartet softwarevirksomhed og har lært om marketingbranchen via samarbejde med amerikanske konsulentbureauer.
